Shopify Summer '25 Edition Released
May 21, 2025

As part of Summer '25 Edition, Shopify is rolling out new tools and features designed specifically for developers.

These updates enable developers to build AI-powered shopping agents, add Shopify commerce features to any site, streamline workflows, and more.

- Shopify Catalog lets developers build apps and AI agents that instantly search and pull detailed product data - like pricing, options, and availability - from millions of Shopify merchants, and display the 10 most relevant products to shoppers. Powered by machine learning, it standardizes this information, delivering clear, accurate, structured data ready for use.

- Storefront MCP lets developers build AI agents that serve as trusted shopping assistants for individual stores, enabling real-time product searches, brand Q&A, cart creation, and checkout initiation directly within conversational AI platforms. By adopting Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), Storefront MCP securely provides AI agents with accurate product catalogs, store policies, and customer account data. Shoppers enjoy seamless, intuitive experiences without leaving their AI conversations, while merchants benefit from accurate, consistent representation of their products and policies.

- Next-gen dev platform is a major upgrade to the developer experience on Shopify - bringing together a unified Developer Dashboard and CLI that simplifies the entire app development process, bringing building, testing, and deployment together into one unified platform. Complementary platform features include:

Realistic testing environments: Developers can now spin up dev stores directly from the dashboard and preview apps in real-world scenarios without deploying.

Smarter data workflows: Create, update, and delete custom data definitions using TOML files and deploy them directly via the CLI.

Unified UI components: Polaris is now a single, unified UI toolkit that seamlessly works across Admin, Checkout, and Customer Accounts. It integrates easily with any JavaScript framework or server-side rendering technology, ensuring consistent, always-up-to-date components delivered via

- Shopify's CDN: Storefront Web Components allows developers to add commerce features to any site, letting buyers shop and purchase directly where they already are. Storefront Web Components are a composable set of HTML Custom Elements that add commerce functionality to existing sites. With a few lines of HTML, add Product Cards, Buy Now buttons, Shopping Carts and more to let buyers view products and transact directly where they are.
