Eldarion is open sourcing Gondor, its DevOps Platform as a Service (PaaS) for Django and Python applications.
The open-source project, named Kel, is built on Kubernetes to offer powerful scalability, flexibility, and support for public cloud, private cloud and on-premise versions.
Kel enables developers and IT professionals to deploy and maintain Django and Python web applications more easily and efficiently by leveraging Kubernetes, the container orchestration platform developed by Google. Kubernetes is the most popular open-source software platform for automating the deployment of software applications inside modular containers. Kel enables DevOps teams to manage their cloud-based software through the entire software development lifecycle.
“Eldarion has been committed to open source since we founded the company in 2009,” said James Tauber, co-founder and CEO of Eldarion. “Our team members lead or contribute to a range of projects including Python, Django, Pinax and many individual Django apps. Open sourcing Kel was an easy decision for us. We want to place the power of what we’ve done in the hands of people who can make it better and more powerful. All the benefits of bug-fixing, security, and doing things out in the open are the reasons why we are open sourcing Kel.”
Kel is offered under the Apache 2.0 open-source software license and is already in use in Beta by a number of Eldarion’s current Gondor customers.
